Customer Reviews

"With the ability to create new Journal entries on device added, I jumped in a purchased the app. Works exactly like you expect. If you are using your Notes journal for password storage or any other "sensitive" data then make sure the connections to the server is SSL'd. Fantastic stuff and probably better than IBM would have done." - DDuke

"I have been a heavy Journal user for many years, and I have missed the ability to work with my journal on my iPhone/iPad. This app does what it has set out to do, and I can't wait to get image support in future versions. Recommended!" - RVoit

About NotesBook

Lotus Notes and iNotes include a personal Notebook (also known as "Journal"), where you can store all kinds of personal information like notes, passwords or interesting links.

As an iPhone or iPad user, you have the problem that Lotus Traveler does not sync this notebook (journal) to your iPhone or iPad. The NotesBook App does exactly that.

Do you want to write mobile Lotus Notes or XPages Apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, too?

You can do that.
With Domino To Go!

With NotesBook, you have the content of your Lotus Notes or iNotes Notebook with you on your iPhone or iPad. And it works offline!

How to use

Open the App, enter your name and password for Domino, the hostname of Domino and the path to your iNotes mailfile, Lotus Notes Notebook (on the Domino server) or your roaming path.
After that, the content of your personal Lotus Notes or iNotes Notebook (Journal) will be downloaded and is then available on the iPhone or iPad, even when you're offline.

Corporate users: distribute attachments like PDF or DOC to iPhone and iPad devices for offline usage

Your sales force want to show PDFs of your product to customers in the field? They can, with NotesBook!

As a corporate user, you can use NotesBook to distribute file attachments like PDF or DOC to the iPhone and iPad devices of your users. Just create a new Lotus Notes Journal database on the Domino server, create Journal entries with PDF, DOC or other file attachments and configure NotesBook to use this Journal database.

NotesBook will synchronize all the journal entries with their file attachments to the iPhone and iPad devices, so that users can show them on the iPad or iPhone (even when it's offline).

What you need to make sure

  • You have to be an iNotes or Lotus Notes user.
  • If you are a Lotus Notes user, your personal Notebook (Journal) needs to be replicated to the Domino server. If you are a roaming user, this should be already the case.
In any case, you need to know the path to the notebook file or the roaming user path.
  • The Domino server needs to be accessible via Web (http or https), and you need to know it's hostname.
  • Domino and Lotus Notes should be version 8 or higher (older Domino versions may work, but are not tested).

Please ask your administrator if you are unsure about these details.

Sitting in the office versus being on the road

It's perfectly fine if the Domino server is reachable from your office network only when your iPhone or iPad is able to connect to the same network via Wifi.
But that also means that you can synchronize your Lotus Notes Notebook only if you are in the office.

If you want to synchronize while being away from the office, the Domino server needs to be reachable from the public internet or VPN.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

  • You get a error message about failed login or wrong URL.
Doublecheck that your username, password, hostname and roaming path are correct in this App's settings.
A hostname looks like 'domino.acme.com', and the roaming path should look like 'roaming/jdoe', 'roaming/doe' or 'roaming/john.doe'.
Hint: you can find the path in the "roaming" tab of your person document in the Domino Directory, too.
  • The download progress bar get's stuck.
This can happen due to network issues. Restart the app and try again.
  • Sometimes the App starts synchronizing automatically, sometimes not.
The App starts a synchronization automatically if more than 24h passed since the last restart of the App.
  • I have images and attachments in my notes, but they don't display on the iPhone.
Indeed, images and files are not support yet. But we're working on it.
  • I'm using sections, in the App some of them are expanded and visible, others are not.
Currently the first 10 sections are expanded automatically while the content is downloaded. Unfortunately at this moment there is no solution for expanding all sections automatically, so you can either restrict yourself to use 10 sections at the most or you set your sections to auto-expand.
  • My Notebook contains more than 1000 entries and I'm missing entries in the iOS App.
Please ask your Domino administrator to increase the value of the "Maximum lines per view page" field in the web site document or server document.
  • NotesBook downloads data, but only displays "loading...".
Please make sure that your journal/notebook database uses the standard columns in the "All Entries" view: icon, subject, entry date, category, modified date, attachment icon.

Planned improvements:

  • Support for multiple Lotus Notes Notebook (Journal) databases.
  • Shooting a photo with the camera and attacht that to an entry.
  • Maybe attaching entries from Dropbox.
